I agree with you about having a pinch of salt on hand (when you're reading most "lifestyle" magazines). Yeah, the suggestions are "magazine-ey," for sales, etc. But the list isn't really that tongue-in-cheek. My last line is sarcastic; these items didn't invalidate the whole list. A lot of the suggestions are real, wild and fun experiences...like completing a bucket list dream, partying all night, making over your house, getting a secret tattoo. I'm sure they mean those seriously; why would they joke about an island rendezvous?

Recently, people were frantic about men going to Brazil for the same kind of thing (or more than that).... I suppose it's the phrasing on #8 that makes it a bit, I don't know, objectifying. But generally speaking, if you're single (or have an understanding in your relationship) and you want to hook up with someone here or on some remote island when you're on vacation, go for it...lol Be safe!

I wasn't so affected by that one. I was more annoyed by #5 (the quotation about white guys & more objectification) and "freedom hair."

I think you have to take these suggestions with a grain of salt. When reading them, they sounded very...magazine-ey.

I'm sure they're not actually telling us to have a sexual tryst next time we're on vacation in an exotic land, but rather to be more open to something new, the wilder experiences of life.

Healthy diet - check. Less internet - yeah, right.

I did, however, spend more time writing. I have a few poems I'm revising to submit to an anthology, and I came up with a theme for a chapbook which I intend to submit in two weeks or so. I rocked a tiny bit :-)

I have been feeling terribly over-informed. I keep thinking that there is a RIGHT way to do this poetry thing, so I read all the blogs and sites, pen in hand, trying to plan it out. As with anything else, I'm going to have to learn to do this my way.

I TOTALLY hear that. I think there's a balance (that I'm still learning) between well informed, and over informed to the point that it's intimidating AND procrastination.

Relationship drama makes for some of the best stories ever told. I wish I'd known about your book in the early stages; my best friend and I have a bunch an applicable tales...lol

You're so right; it was refreshing. I learned to live with less in a literal and, I suppose, figurative sense. A part of me--the type A compulsive planner--would like to know what the immediate, next major step is so that I can better prepare, but I'm leaning toward just continuing to do things I love, setting small goals, and letting the rest surprise me.

It is a new layout. Thanks! It's a photo I took of a mural in the Bahamas. The original is quite colorful, but I thought making it grey-scale would be best for the header. I also installed Disqus so people can subscribe to the comment threads in which they respond. I respond to all of my comments, but I'm not sure how many commenters realized that...lol
